"Dinner at Tennis Court". What kind of dinner can be imagined? Maybe casual snacks like pizza and hotdogs on the paper plates? Well, actually, the tennis court in Zurich offer quite a special dinner in a very private atmosphere.
Upon we arrived, the table was set for 10 people.
The table was covered with pretty red linen and napkins.
Just looking at the table, you could hardly imagine that it is actually by tennis court..
But it is, indeed. Two people were playing tennis when we arrived. I enjoyed watching them plyaing tennis.
The right man on the photo plays really good. Even his style is like that of professional players!!
I often meet him when I go and play as well.
So what we had for dinner is...
A herb rice with shrimp and vegetables steered fry! Rice containg herb is more healthy than normal white rice and it served with many vegetables such as celery, paprika and onions.
Here often serves one plate dish. But people are free to bring own desserts. This time, Tomomi brought self-made plum cakes! Even we brought dessert by ourselves, the owner kindly prepared it on the plate.
Unlike other restaurants, the place was all for us and completely private.
Cozy dinner time last until late. Perfect way to conclude fulfilling weekend and be ready for another week..
is a cool restaurant in Zürich, very modern and fashionable. It reminds me of restaurants in Azabu, Tokyo.
One modern, high trend local girl chose this restaurants for dinner place, which was a great choice!
High ceiling, comfortably equipped table and chair, artistic flowers...
Mismatch of classical chanderia is also nice. The hall is big and spacy, and has bar counter as well.
Here is the menu. One whole page was a "menu for a day". I like the restaurants which has special menu every day. That means, they have the best selection for each days.
This is what I have chosen as appetizer. "Summer Ice Salad" was served with quoter of fresh lettuce, mango and beets with strawberry sauce. It was crispy and dressing was little bit sour.
Another appetizer. Good presentation and healthy! These are red cabbages and grapefruits.
My main dish was light fried fish with vegetables. The fish was crunchy and salty. It was good but flavor was little bit strong. White fish is delicate so the balance with sauce is very important.
Another healthy dish! Light sauteed tuna with salads. Perfect for those groumet but health consious people.
Dessert was also sexy. Good stuff in small portion.. Which is not normal in Switzerland Often the case, huge cake is served but I could enjoy how it look and also taste sweets a little bit after a big meal.
Overall, the restaurant is highly recommendable for trendy girls group, of course for romantic date and also a business dinner. What I could add is that the service was also super friendly and helpful!
and everybody satisfied...!
Last night I had two important guests! I was thinking of the menu for such a long time..
They are indeed top VIP... I was working on in the kitchen from early afternoon in order to be prepared for their arrival.
Alessio, who living in Japan for 5 years and already his spirit is half Japanese:) is now returning Switzerland for holiday. Without him, I was never able to meet my husband.
Alex, who is more than half Swedish is good old friend of my husband. I'm sure he took an important role to encourage my husband to marry with me:)
These VIPs are very warm hearted and FUNNY!!
So my favorite starter comes. I believe this starter is beautiful in color and also match perfect with beer. I like it specially when I serve it on balcony.
It was not that hot day but still whether was clear and warm summer day. Soup is one of my favorite appetizer so I decided to make fresh cold one. Light chicken with tomatoes and cucumber, accented with mint flavor. These are warm up for coming big meal:)
Hi Hi Hi!! Now second course, hot dish from oven! One is eggplant grilled with meat and garlic. The other one is herb meat ball, boiled in tomato sauce. I say, this is Italian food made in Japan:) Both are mixture of meat and vegetables which is my favorite combination.
Meanwhile, three mens are enjoying and laughing and laughing.. I can easily imagine how they were talking about girls since they are young.. Alessio was even fell down from chair, laughing too much! It reminded me of my crazy girlfriends in Japan. We also laughed like crazy until our tommy is twisted:)
Alex and Alessio listened to my poor German carefully.. They also speak perfect and clear high German which enable me to understand a lot.
Last menu was too dark to take photo. It was herb chicken rice with hot cabbage salad with Japanese sauce. I didn't know how big appetite they will have. I cooked too much:) But it's better than cooking less when we have a guests!
Dessert was cherry ice cream with bits of chocolates and green tea. Then we were enjoying film for a long time..
After laughing and talking a lot in a cozy atmosphere, we all felt sleepy. Specially Alessio, who just arrived from Japan yesterday, no wonder felt a little bit sleepy.
I'm so glad that they really relaxed and enjoy at our home and my husband was also very satisfied. Moreover, it was me who really enjoyed the visit of special friends!
Second dinner date in Zürich with my husband! The reservation we made for Saturday night is "Oscar".
It was beautiful Saturday, the sky was totally clear until 9o'clock.
As we arrived, a waitress let us choose any table. There was seats outside but we took inside by the window. The results was perfect, since it's small restaurant, inside was almost private for us until late. Outside seats were almost full but I prefer quiet inside than the seat outside next to the street.
So, starting from Champaign, we enjoyed Olives and house made Focaccia. Focaccia was served warm and chewy. Gaspaccio was served to everybody as a starter, which was perfect for summer weekend. A topping of basil sauce was good accent.
Then came appetizer of our choice. My husband chose "Caprese Oscar Style", and I chose "Artichoke with Hollander sauce"!! I was not quite sure about the menu but ordered it from curiosity. Wow, the surprise was more than I thought! One big flower of Artichoke was served in front of me!!
I purposely uploaded the photo with myself so that you can see how big the artichoke is. It was indeed SURPRISING!! How do you eat it? Well, rip the leaf of artichoke one by one and dump it in the Hollander sauce. Bite the top part of leaf and enjoy it's bitterness and sweetness. It is indeed big but the amount you eat is not so much. I think this is one of the most healthy appetizer you can get as it contains fiber. And you can continue enjoy eating it to the end like this:)
It's the core part of artichoke after I ripped of all the leaves. Pour the Hollander sauce directly and enjoy it's soft meat.
Oh, this is the original Caprese what my husband ordered. Cherry tomatoes were indeed very sweet and made good collaboration with whole mozzarella.
I was truly satisfied with Artichoke and already ready for dessert. But I have to go through the main dish.
My choice was "Fish from Zürich See" which means fish from Zürich lake. I never expect anything from seafood in Switzerland, where no ocean is, but if it's from lake on the corner, must be fresh enough!
That was fine, delicate white fish. Lake fish is more delicate than sea fish. You have to be very keen with the taste. In that point of view, the carpet of the fish, vegetables were cooked too much. It was too salty and butterly to enjoy the delicate flavor of fish.
My husband ordered well beef file.
Perfect choice for meat and red wine lover!
Good point of this restaurant is that, you can take lots of veggies. Normally in Switzerland, meat served with potatoes or fries. Here, starting from Gaspaccio, whole menu was in good balance.
Dessert was two choices. Strawberries with Vanilla ice cream and Proffitto Roll. Just one more minus point, it was not exactly Italian Profitto Roll which supposed to be covered by chocolate sauce. It that was not named as Profitto Roll, no problem. Rather better without chocolate sauce after whole menu. Strawberries were just great. I felt I don't need any sugar and ice cream for this fruit.
Overall, I was very satisfied with the restaurant including friendly service. Interior was also interesting. The wooden wall is painted red, classic European light is hanging but dine with modern relaxing music. The plants they have was Asian style and it's unique fusion achieve very cozy atmosphere.
It's the place where you can closer the distance of partner you went together!
I have to write little bit about birthday dinner on Sunday while it was another new discovery in Zurich. Here, Rosalys is a restaurant hidden behind a beloved sausage stand Sternen Foifi. This stand is always full with people who biting big sausage but in behind, there is a cozy and classic restaurant owned by same manager.
As I wrote in other blog, my body temerature was crazy so I had to order ginger soup. It turned out to be much better than I thought! Creamy ginger soup with shrimp gently filled my starving tommy.
Many menu was hard to decide. I ordered roasted crispy chicken, which was good but not that special.
Here is traditional Zurich food Geschnetzeltes.
This dish was also tempting. I'm the person who want to have warm dish for dinner, I didn't choose this one saying "chicken salad" but it looked really good with fruits!
This one is something like Yakitori on the salad. Healthy choice!
Good food bring good conversation. It was a evening which 3 languages went on!!
I was realllllly looking forward to this date, both positive and negative. Last Saturday, we had a visit of a couple, a girl is a winnter of famous cook show in Switzerland! That means, she cook the best in this country!!
Last time when she invited us, she treated us with such a perfect course menu. Salad was tied with cute red ribbon, (good presentation!) and even a dessert was cooked on the spot.
So, I knew I cannot satisfied her with western food since she knows EVERYTHING! I have no choice than treating her with Asian food! I was even asking my husband to postpone her visit until I receive a box from my mom, filled with Japanese sauces and ingredients.
So here come a couple with lovely pink roses! Ohhhhh, huge!!
And my appetizer was ready to be served!! My favorite Namaharumaki!
Ms. Chef was curious about rice paper. Yes, so far I've never found rice paper in Switzerland. I really like this harmony of Namaharumaki rolling veggies, shrips and hams.
This is OBORO TOFU. Tofu served with poached egg. Very delicate dish.
The course was followed by Wang Tan soup, spicy Tofu and pork fried and Curry potato. We kept Japanese style dining, pouring foods on rice like DOMBURI.
Dinner was finished succesfully. Super chef is such a heartwarming lady and she said everything I cook is very good, even if I made everything wrong. But I still think what was the best through the evening was chocolate mouce brought by her as a dessert.
I love Friday night. Dash back to home where my husband wait and cook dinner to enjoy private time after long busy week.
Today's menu was gorgonzora pasta. We have plenty of cheese in fridge so somehow have to consume it! Add milk and cream to butter and wait until it boils. Add chopped cheese in pan and cook for a while. Add boiled water from pan boiling pasta. Today, I add some broccolis as well to make it a little bit healthier. Toss boiled pasta and now just eat as early as possible! Freshness is the most important element to enjoy good pasta. With some healthy veggies, thick cream pasta is more delicious.
A little bit heavy meal was perfect to enjoy Friday night just two of us.
